E.E. Cummings, 95 Poems

"Remarkable for its vigor, freshness, interest in ordinary individuals, and awareness of the human life cycle, the collection reflects Cumming's observations on nature and his prevailing gratitude for what life offers: 'Time's a strange fellow: more he gives than takes.' "

Glenn Taylor, The Ballad of Trenchmouth Taggart

"Meet Early "Trenchmouth" Taggart, a man born and orphaned in 1903: a one time inventor, snakehandler, cunnilinguist[något väldigt obsent kan nämnas], sniper, woodsman, harmonica man, and newspaperman. His is an epic story, a tall tale in the traditions of Mark Twain, chronicling more than one hundred years of exile and outrunning trouble. It is the love song of an outlaw and, like the best ballads, it etches its mark deep upon the memory."

Yoko Ogawa, The Housekeeper + The Professor

"Each morning, as the Professor and the Housekeeper are reintroduced to one another, a strange, beautiful relationship blossoms between them. The Professor may not remember what he had for breakfast, but his mind is still alive with elegant equations from the past. He devises clever maths riddles - based on her shoe size or her birthday - and the numbers reveal a sheltering and poetic world to both the Housekeeper and her ten-year-old son. With each new equation, the three lost souls forge an affection more mysterious than imaginary numbers, and a bond that runs deeper than memory."

Ovid, Heroides

"in the twenty-one poems of the Heroides, Ovid gave voice to the heroines and heros of epic and myth. These deeply moving literary epistles reveal the happiness and torment of love, as the writers tell of their pain of separation, forgiveness of infidelity or anger at betrayal. The faithful Penelope wonders at the suspiciously long absence of Ulysses, While Dido bitterly reproaches Aeneas for too eagerly leaving her bed to follow his destiny, and Sappho - the only historical figure portrayed here - describes her passion for the cruelly rejecting Phaon. In the poetic letters between Paris and Helen the lovers seem oblivious to the disaster prophesied for them, while in another exchange the youthful Leander asserts his foolhardy eagerness to risk his life to be with his beloved Hero."
